Training

Support your laboratory’s accreditation and your professional development by attending our measurement training courses. Or are you keen to branch into a new testing area? We have a variety of practical courses to choose from depending on the area you need to upskill in.

MSL will usually offer training courses annually in August at Lower Hutt and Auckland locations. Alternatively, if you have at least five course attendees, we can send one of our trainers to your site on any other month. We are always interested in your training requirements, so we can look to plan and provide training that suits your needs.

Our training courses are highly recommended by International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) for personnel with technical responsibilities in metrology and calibration laboratories operating in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and for those seeking accreditation. In addition to the expert advice on how to make reliable measurements, the workshops provide attendees with the knowledge and tools to properly calculate measurement uncertainty and report results.

These practical, hands-on training workshops present real laboratory situations and demonstrate how to develop new techniques and procedures to ensure constant improvement. As members of New Zealand’s national metrology institute, our trainers are specialist metrologists, world experts in fact, and you have the opportunity to learn from them. The training won't stop at the door on the way out because our scientists will continue to support course attendees once back in the laboratory and applying the knowledge.

Introduction to MSL - Training Module

We've developed an online module to help you understand our role as a national metrology institute.

Our Mission - To accelerate New Zealand’s economic growth and enhance well-being through access to world-class measurement standards and advice.

MSL is New Zealand’s official measurement standards body that underpins regulatory compliance and international trade.

We carry out research to improve the SI and to solve measurement problems in industry and government. We play a key role ensuring international recognition of New Zealand’s National Measurement System, which is essential for New Zealand’s ongoing international trade.  Click on the image below to access this learning module.
